Planting the seed

Waching your garden grow

A frequent underlying message that Mary sends is to love yourself.  You can do this in many ways.  The simplest way is to take care of yourself.

In a recent message Mary sent the image of the way we used to farm.  It was a in the days where it was done by hand.  Families would farm small plots of land and grow enough food for themselves and their neighbours to get everyone through the year.  It was hard work and it was challenging, but it was pure, honest, and healthy.

The image then changed to the farming methods of today where huge companies control the process.  The process is far from pure… as chemicals are used in the form of fertilizers and pesticides…the DNA of the seeds have been altered to increase higher crop yields and the seeds are genetically mutated to ward off insects and spoilage.

It’s the world we now live in and it’s a bit scary.   We don’t know what the long term effects are of these genetically modified organisms (GMO’s), and worse yet we have little say in the matter.  As citizens we have never been consulted, yet at the same time we vote in favour of GMO’s every time we visit a grocery store and unknowingly purchase these products.

Mary is reminding us to pay attention to what we eat and take better care of ourselves.  If at all possible do a bit of homework and seek out products that are healthier for us. If we have the means, spent the little bit extra to purchase organic and non-GMO products.  If at all possible communicate to your local government officials and express your concern about food labelling or lack thereof…organize small groups if you think that will help to communicate your concerns…make the healthier choices when you can…if you are lucky enough to own a small parcel of land consider growing your own by creating a small garden…for many of us spring is a few months around the corner, so this is the best time to start thinking and planning!

And this is according to Mary!

There’s not an “App” for that

An Apple worth waiting for

An Apple worth waiting for

I caught on the news the other day that Apple released its latest iPhone and in many cities around the world consumers lined up overnight, or in the early morning, so they could be the first to experience the latest apple product.

Yesterday “C” and I also decided to experience the latest apple product. We threw on some old clothes…drove for about an hour…parked the car and started to trot through a local no spray apple orchard.

We experienced the feeling of the dirt road under our feet…the feeling of the sun on our faces…a gentle cool breeze keeping us at a comfortable temperature as we started to pluck these beautiful orbs of goodness.

We felt the plump fruit in our hands as we snapped them off the trees…we felt the joy of climbing a ladder and stretching our arms to their full capacity to grab the biggest and plumpest apple on the tree. We filled our lungs with fresh air…and the sweet aroma of acres and acres of fresh fruit dangling from tree after tree.

We felt the connection to the earth….we felt the connection to nature…we stood and gazed at the beauty and bounty of what the earth provides us…and of course we tasted the deliciousness of several varieties of apples…the Granny Smith…the Macintosh…the Gravenstein.

We savoured the experience…we took in the sights, the sounds, the smells, and the feelings that went with our connection with nature.

Mary wanted to remind us of the bounty and purity of nature…the love that comes from the earth…the healing properties associated with good food, and with our connection with nature.

So take this opportunity to disconnect this weekend…go out and experience nature…I’m pretty sure there isn’t an app for that:-)

And this is according to Mary!!!

Whatcha Eatin’

The Four Food Groups

So… next in the series of “Listen” messages Mary drew attention to our health and our eating habits. I couldn’t help but notice that more and more companies are advertising new product lines that say something to the nature of “Now made with natural ingredients”. Which in many ways is a good thing…it means that companies are listening…they are getting the message.

Of course the question I always have is “What the heck were you making before you started using natural ingredients?”. The discouraging thing is that these companies are usually offering the “new” all natural product as part of their product line, which means they are still producing products filled with toxins, hormones and preservatives. If they were truly concerned with our health and wellbeing wouldn’t they discontinue their old product line and only produce the natural products? So there is still a longs ways to go.

Another question to ask is “if a company states that they are making a healthier product is it indeed healthy? Or is it mainly packaging and marketing?” You really need to do your research.

In our neck of the woods a national company was making a claim that they were producing all natural products and that all ingredients on the label could be pronounced. One of the ingredients was Cultured Celery Extract. Sounds healthy enough…but by doing a bit of research you’ll find that Celery is a natural source of nitrites/nitrates… so what initially sounded healthy is actually now a health risk.

I’m sure if you think about it there are plenty of examples of companies trying to wordsmith their product in order to convince you that you are buying a healthy product….only to discover there is still way too much sugar, way too much salt….and way too many unknown ingredients listed on the package (I won’t even bring up GMO’s in this post…that’s a whole other issue).

So continue to do your research, learn more about what you are buying…tell your friends and family when you discover something scary or misleading…keep everyone you love safe!

…and this is according to Mary!

It looks good, but who made it?

Fresh vegetables falling

Mary sent me a series of “Listen” messages. All of the messages boil down to “Listen to what makes sense”. Our last post talked about how if a credit card company is trying to tell you that you should use your credit card to make small purchases you should listen to your heart…does it make sense to do so? Of course not…there’s a cost involved and we all end up paying for it.

Her next message is about the things that we eat. Does it make sense to eat food that has been altered genetically? Personally I’d prefer to eat what nature originally provided…before we decided to play with Mother Nature.

Genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) kind of scare me. Do we really need to eat a green pepper the size of a football helmet? If we do here’s an idea…just buy two normal sized peppers. Our food doesn’t need to be modified…it’s not natural.

GMO’s are scary enough, but the thing that is even more frightening is that some GMO’s seem to be backfiring. I recently heard a report where by GMO corn in the US that was designed to resist rootworm has actually caused the rootworm to evolve. The rootworms are now digging in and flourishing. Farmers in Indiana, Illinois and across the U.S. Midwest are now looking to insecticides to protect their crops. Now we have genetically modified food treated with insecticide…even more toxins.

http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/episode/2013/05/29/gm-resistant-rootworms-and-the-future-of-farming/

That was just one example…what other GMO’s products are failing? What are the long term effects? How deep does it all go? Most of us just don’t know, meanwhile the government keeps passing laws that approve the integration of GMO’s into our food supply. We don’t even have a say in the matter.

Mary is asking us to do our own research…and look into your heart to help guide you. Listen for what is going on in your own part of the world…vote with your wallet and do your best to buy healthy food products. Contact your local government officials and let them know how you feel about GMO’s….eventually they will get the message…educate your friends and families…they might be completely unaware…the more people know the more impact we will have.

…continue to love yourself by keeping yourself healthy….and this is according to Mary!

They’re Setting Fire to the Oceans

They’re Setting Fire to the Oceans…those are actually partial lyrics to a song by a band called Yukon Blonde that’s been stuck in my head since a recent message from Mary came through. The image that she sent was that of the ocean and a single fishing boat. My first thought was that the boat seemed so small in comparison to the massive oceans, but yet at the same time I felt fear. The reality is that our oceans are in danger. It’s as if we are setting fire to the oceans through our over consumption and disposable life styles… plus the issue of over fishing… we are placing a huge strain on our environment.

Most people are unaware of what is happening to our delicate underwater ecosystems. Most of us know about the health benefits of fish and fish oils, but are unaware of the destruction that is happening all over the world. I’m not suggesting giving up the health benefits but we should at least be thinking about our lifestyles and the choices we make.

I found a very interesting video from the UK which I’m sure is reflective in the fishing practices in other parts of the world. Also, there is a documentary coming out next month by Rob Stewart called Revolution that will be worth watching.

The End is Near!!! For Winter that is!

Covered in ice

This week when we channelled Mary several messages came through, we thought this one was timely. As I closed my eyes and began to connect the first image that popped into my mind was that of the sun hidden behind the cloud of winter…soon after I saw the sun I could hear the chirping of birds…and the sun became warm and the light began to come through….

Mary wanted those of us who live in a wintery climate to hold tight…we are getting closer to spring…there will be less and less wintery weather…less snow…less cold…less clouds…less darkness. Soon there will be warmth from the sun…the days are getting longer…there will be green grass, and leaves in the trees. Focus on the positive…focus on new growth…focus on the warmth that is coming our way…focus on the energy that spring will bring…and the love that tends to shine a little more at that time of the year…take advantage of the healing that fresh air and sunshine will bring…visualize what is coming our way….yet at the same time continue to embrace the beauty we still find in nature today!

Three square meals

Actually the image Mary displayed was that of a triangle but it related to the meal we and our children eat every day. She sees these meals connected to our health, happiness, and to the love we have for our children. The message she sent was directed towards parents.

She wanted to tell parents about the importance of feeding our children three proper meals a day. Not just making sure they eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, but she wants us to think about the food our children are consuming each and every day.

How many of their meals are truly nutritious? How many of their meals are homemade as compared to fast or processed food? What about the sugar, fat, and salt content of what they are eating? How much of the food they are eating is processed as compared to fresh or preservative free? What ingredients are really consuming…what does it say on the package? What about sugary drink…or worse yet energy drinks? What are all of these things doing to their health and their bodies (or ours for that matter)?

Mary just wanted to ask these questions…she’s concerned.

As parents we want the best for our children. We don’t want to see them hurt, and we worry when they are sick. We’d do anything for them if we could. Mary wants us to start with what we let them eat. She knows it’s not easy given life, choices, and economics today… but with a bit of planning, some self-education, and by making small and gradual changes things will improve. It’s worth considering.

And this is according to Mary.
